Fourth of July celebration is taken to new heights at Snowshoe Mountain

updated Monday, July 28, 12:34 pm

SNOWSHOE, W.Va.- Snowshoe Mountain is celebrating the nation's birthday in a big way. Beginning on July 3rd, the resort will host the first Snowshoe Bluegrass Festival, part of the Summer Music Series. Headlined by bluegrass legend Del McCoury, the festival will feature free live performances Thursday thru Sunday on the Village Stage. Evening concerts Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5 on the Skidder Stage will feature The Del McCoury Band, Larry Cordle, Larry Keel and others. Tickets for these shows are now on sale at Ticketmaster, or by calling 1-877-441-4FUN. Only 1000 pre-sale tickets are available for the show, and they're going fast! The show will be moved indoors should inclement weather occur, limiting available pre-sale tickets. With Mother Nature's cooperation, additional tickets will be available day-of for the outdoor venue.

In addition to the live entertainment, guests will enjoy four days of family fun in Snowshoe's mountaintop Village. Carnival-style games, a climbing wall, eurobungy and other attractions will keep kids of all ages smiling throughout the day. All of Snowshoe Mountain's regular summer activities, including Shavers Lake, scenic lift rides, the Snowshoe Mountain Bike Park and Split Rock Pools will be open throughout the long weekend. On Sunday, July 6, residents of Pocahontas, Randolph, Webster, Greenbrier, Pendleton and Nicholas counties are invited to our annual Community Day Block Party. All residents showing a valid ID will receive a free Village Pass as well as a free Fun Pass, gaining admittance to scenic lift rides and Split Rock Pools, a ½ hour paddle boat rental at Shavers Lake and a free small bag of popcorn during the movie under the stars that evening. A 10% discount at Snowshoe-owned retail locations will also be available to residents showing ID.

On the night of the Fourth, after enjoying the sounds of Del McCoury and other bluegrass greats, guests will be treated to a spectacular mountaintop fireworks display. With the best viewing just outside the Village, this is the perfect way to end a fabulous day of celebration. In additional to all the entertainment and activities, Snowshoe Mountain offers beautiful summertime weather all season long. With warm temperatures free from humidity, the mountain sunshine offers the perfect setting to take advantage of our natural playground.
