Wrightsville Beach, NC: Have you ever wanted to sculpt an award-winning sand castle or watch one being built? On August 9, visitors and residents will enjoy a day of sun and fun at Wrightsville Beach during the 10th Annual Castles & Scoops event at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort (1706 N. Lumina Avenue).

The 10th Annual Castles & Scoops event will feature its signature sand-sculpting competition. Contestants will build sandcastles that are judged on: originality and creativity of a theme or concept; artistic execution of a theme or concept; and use of natural resources. The contest is followed by an ice cream social with family-friendly activities led by The Children's Museum of Wilmington. Any way you stack it, this event promises a double-treat for families, civic groups, businesses, and individuals who want to have fun and help raise money for a good cause—The Children's Museum of Wilmington.

Registration for the sandcastle competition will take place from 9:00am-10:00am at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort. To guarantee your space, pre-registration prior to the event is strongly encouraged. Forms are available online at http://www.playwilmington.org. From 10:00am until 12:00noon, teams will create their own sandcastles, then relax while the judges make their decisions during a delicious lunch and build-your-own ice cream sundae dessert bar (12:00noon-1:00pm; food cost not included in registration price). At 1:00pm, judges will announce this year's winners.

Participants of Castles & Scoops always have a fantastic time. So join The Children's Museum of Wilmington in Wrightsville Beach on Saturday, August 9th. Families, businesses, and organizations can register teams in one of six categories. There's also a "10 Years of Fun" category that teams can register for, in addition to their general category.

Parking is available at the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History, with shuttle service available beginning at 9:15am and ending at 2:30pm.
